Weather Watch

A few weeks back we visited Bremer Bay on the south coast of Western Australia. It was our first visit, but we had heard of this small seaside town many times – it often features in weather reports, in statements like “Strong winds from Bremer Bay to the South Australian border”.

 

As it turned out, the weather was fine and mild while we were there and we found a lot to like in Bremer Bay. The most obvious thing was the bay, with dramatically blue water and many beaches. As a bonus there was an interesting collection of exhibits in the Wellstead Museum, which was assembled by a local collector and contains everything from classic cars to model ships and old household appliances:

 

 

We were also surprised by the local large grey birds, which we had never seen before. They look like a cross between a crow and a magpie, and turned out to be grey currawongs. Being early summer, the parent birds were still feeding their large and insistently hungry offspring:
