Laid Back
If you tour around the Geraldton area, 430km north of Perth, you will notice some very strange trees. Instead of standing up straight, they lean right over so their tops lie along the ground.
These unusual trees are River Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) which have been battered by the wind for so long that they have taken the line of least resistance simply decided to lie down along the ground. The locals refer to them as “wind pruned” trees. They are particularly common on the Greenough Flats south of Geraldton.
You can read more about the unexpected tourist attractions of Geraldton in our story and online video “Geraldton’s Best Kept Secrets” in the January 2010 issue of Caravan World magazine.
